WAKING UP ON THE ISLAND

THE ISLAND IS YOURS UNTIL THE FIRST FERRY.
Lanes still empty, terraces just beginning to open, pine-scented air drifting through the village: this is Porquerolles before the first ferry, and only those who slept here ever see it. That's no accident. The island sits inside the Port-Cros National Park, which keeps development in check, so hotels stay few, small and closely tied to the island's rhythm. The reward is a different kind of stay: unhurried evenings, long dinners, and a walk back to your room under the pines. Beds are scarce, so book early and pick the version of the island you want to wake up in: village square, courtyard breakfast, sea view or pool.
"I like that chill and keen hour of morn, when man still sleeps, and all Nature is awakening. The air is full of mysterious thrills unknown to belated risers."
Guy de Maupassant, Afloat (Sur l'eau), 1888, translated

LE MAS DU LANGOUSTIER

Sylvia Fournier opened Le Mas du Langoustier in 1934, and the family still owns it, out in a 50-hectare park at the island's western tip where the mobile signal fades and the hotel treats that as a feature. Forty-seven rooms across three wings, a pool under the pines, two tennis courts, two restaurants and direct access to Plage Noire make it the island's most elevated stay. Come for a celebration, or just for the rare pleasure of being unreachable.

VILLA SAINTE ANNE

Villa Sainte Anne started as a guesthouse built by a local priest right beside the church, before François-Joseph Fournier, the man who bought the whole island, turned it into a hotel. A century later it still feels wonderfully "dans son jus": ochre façades, 25 rooms, a eucalyptus-shaded terrace and a generous buffet breakfast, with half-board available for anyone who'd rather not leave the square for dinner. The rooms in the historic wing look straight onto Place d'Armes, so the village is your morning soundtrack.

Villa With Private Pool

Every group trip has one person who'd rather stay home with the pool, and on Porquerolles, this villa makes that a perfectly reasonable plan. The pool is framed by bougainvillea, the terrace catches the sun, and a long outdoor table is ready for lunches that turn into afternoons. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a sofa bed sleep up to six, all two steps from the village centre.

Design Terrace Apartment

This Design Terrace Apartment is the hosts' own family home, which explains the details: a 1960s residence with rounded windows, dark tiled floors and a living room so high-ceilinged it looks down on its own open kitchen. The terrace splits in two, one level for dining with views over the port and gardens, the other flowing straight out of the living room. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms sleep up to six, with kids' equipment for every age, which makes it an easy call for families, a short walk from the village.

HÉLÈNE & IVRITH’S DUPLEX

A glimpse of the sea from the living room, a bright open kitchen, a mezzanine tucked under the roof: Hélène & Ivrith's Duplex feels like a real Porquerolles home rather than a set dressed for guests. The 35 m² apartment sits in the heart of the village, with a polished-concrete bathroom downstairs and a low-ceilinged mezzanine holding two double beds and a single. It's lived-in in the best way, full of the everyday details that make a place feel rooted on the island. Best for a couple, or a couple with a child, who want to wake up in the middle of village life with the sea still in view.
