Where to Eat in Nice: Local Gems and Riviera Favourites
Get inspired for your next trip
Explore Nice through the restaurants we love most: Old Nice classics, modern favourites and Riviera moments made for long, easy evenings.
To me, the best restaurants in Nice are not just about food, but about the moment they belong to.

Some restaurants are for a special dinner, others for a childhood memory, a glass of wine by the Port, a Sunday brunch or a plate of pasta that arrives larger than expected. That is what I love most about eating in Nice: the city never fits into just one mood. It can be refined without feeling distant, nostalgic without feeling frozen, generous without losing elegance.

Some addresses belong to the old Nice I grew up with, the kind of places where pizza, ravioli or ice cream become part of a family ritual. Others tell a more contemporary story, with creative menus, intimate dining rooms and chefs who are giving the city a new energy. And then there are the Riviera moments: wine shared with friends, small plates by the water, sea views, bright terraces and evenings that stretch longer than planned.

This guide is not meant to be a definitive ranking of the best restaurants in Nice, but a personal selection of the places I genuinely love, each for a different reason, a different appetite and a different version of the city.

Old-Nice Classics

Bar des Oiseaux

Best for ? A cheerful dinner that feels very Vieux Nice
What vibe ? Familiar, animated, unfussy

Bar des Oiseaux has that rare Old Nice energy where tradition refuses to sit still. Tucked inside a small corner house on Rue Saint-Vincent, this Armand Crespo address takes familiar southern comfort and gives it a more colourful, slightly mischievous rhythm: brandade, bourride, handmade pasta, stuffed ravioli, seafood linguine, all served at relatively gentle prices in a pop-art-inspired setting. It feels less like a nostalgic institution than a lively little theatre of Niçois appetite, somewhere between a neighbourhood classic and a place that still knows how to surprise you. It is the kind of place that feels familiar even on a first visit: lively, colourful, a little nostalgic, and exactly where you want to be when Vieux Nice feels hungry rather than polished. Our favorite address in Nice !

Fenocchio

Best for? The ultimate ice cream stop in Vieux Nice
What vibe ? Simple, sunny, full of flavour

Fenocchio is, without hesitation, my favourite ice cream shop in Nice. Set on Place Rossetti in the heart of Vieux Nice, this family-run glacier has been part of the city since 1966 and is famous for its almost dizzying range of flavours, from the great classics to more regional creations like violet, lavender or tomato-basil. What makes it stand apart, for me, is not just the number of flavours, but how precise they taste: the fruit sorbets feel close to the fruit itself, the nut-based flavours have real depth, and the chocolate ones are rich without becoming heavy. Other ice cream shops in Nice can be very good, but Fenocchio has something more authentic in the way each flavour is handled. It is one of those places I never get tired of returning to.

Chez Acchiardo

Best for? A proper Niçois meal that feels like home
What vibe ? Homey, local, full of soul

Chez Acchiardo is the kind of Old Nice address that feels less like a restaurant trend and more like a piece of the city’s memory. Even the word "Chez" gives you the feeling of being welcomed into someone’s home, which suits the place perfectly. Set on Rue Droite, in the heart of Vieux Nice, it has stayed true to generous, family-style Niçois cooking: ravioli, gnocchi, panisses, tourte de blettes, stuffed vegetables and the kind of dishes that taste better because they have nothing to prove. The room has a warm, slightly old-fashioned charm that instantly makes the meal feel familiar. Nothing feels overdesigned or overly polished, and that is exactly the point: Acchiardo is about comfort, tradition, local appetite and the simple pleasure of sitting down somewhere that still feels genuinely rooted in Nice.

Maison Barale

Best for? Taking home the best Niçois ravioli in town
What vibe ? Family-run, artisanal, deeply Niçois

Maison Barale is not exactly a restaurant, but it absolutely deserves a place in this guide because it is one of the great food institutions of Vieux Nice. Open since 1892, this family-run house has been making fresh pasta for generations, with ravioli as its signature specialty. Their traditional Niçois ravioli, especially the ones filled with daube, are the best in the city. What makes Barale so special is that it still feels like a real neighbourhood address, somewhere locals come to buy gnocchi, panisses and seasonal ravioli to cook at home, rather than a polished tourist stop. It is the kind of place that reminds you Nice is not only about restaurants, but also about savoir-faire, family recipes and the pleasure of bringing a little piece of the Old Town back to your own table.

Pizza Cresci

Best for? A nostalgic family pizza night in central Nice
What vibe ? Old-school, generous, theatrical

Pizza Cresci is a pizzeria that belongs to the city’s collective memory, and to mine too. Since its creation in 1956, the address has become a true local institution, known for its wood-fired oven, generous Mediterranean cooking and famous half-moon pizzas, which have been shared over the decades by Niçois families, international visitors and well-known figures from show business, including Marilyn Monroe. For me, it will always have that extra layer of nostalgia: I used to go there all the time with my family when I was little, and that is probably why it still feels less like “going out for pizza” than returning to a familiar ritual. Between the colourful room, the busy terrace and the smell of the oven, Pizza Cresci remains old-school in the best possible way.

Modern Spots

Lavomatique

Best for ? Small plates and a less obvious Old Town dinner
What vibe ? Tiny, buzzy, unpretentious

Lavomatique is the kind of address you almost hesitate to share, because part of its charm lies in how small and in-demand it is. Tucked away on Rue du Pont Vieux, behind a name that still sounds like a neighbourhood secret, the restaurant plays with the codes of a modern bistro without feeling stiff or predictable. The plates are made for curious eaters: generous enough to feel comforting, precise enough to stay interesting, and often best enjoyed by ordering several dishes to share. It is lively, compact and full of regulars, which means booking well in advance is not optional, it is part of the experience. Come here when you want dinner in Vieux Nice to feel a little less obvious and much more memorable.

Salette

Best for? Homemade French cooking in a small bistronomic spot
What vibe ? Friendly, grounded, carefully done

Salette is a small bistronomic table on Rue Bonaparte, with the kind of menu that makes French comfort food feel a little more polished without losing its warmth. The restaurant describes itself as a “bistrot gourmand”, and that feels right: homemade dishes, good wine, generous plates and a relaxed atmosphere that still gives the meal a sense of occasion. It is the kind of place to book when you want a proper dinner in Nice, but not something too formal or overthought. Just good cooking, a charming setting, and that satisfying feeling of having found a restaurant that does exactly what it promises.

Le Panier

Best for? Letting the chef decide your dinner
What vibe ? Creative, unexpected, gently adventurous

At Le Panier, there is no 'à la carte' choice. Set in the heart of Vieux Nice, the restaurant offers a blind tasting experience built around several “stops”, with the chef revealing each course as it arrives at the table. At lunch, the On The Road menu includes four courses, while dinner moves into a five-course Voyage or a longer seven-course Immersion, with fish, meat or vegetarian options depending on the menu. The cuisine is seasonal, creative and rooted in fresh produce, much of it sourced from the Cours Saleya market, but with a more travelled, playful spirit than a classic Old Town bistro. Go when you want dinner to feel like a small adventure: not too formal, but definitely more curious, personal and surprising than the usual restaurant plan.

La Cantine de Mémé

Best for? Comfort food with a clever bistronomic twist
What vibe ? Warm, playful, unexpectedly sharp

La Cantine de Mémé may sound like a nostalgic family kitchen, but the food is much more playful than the name suggests. Set in the Carré d’Or, in a quiet little corner, it mixes the warmth of a neighbourhood restaurant with a more creative, bistronomic approach. The menu changes with the seasons, moving between comforting French references and more unexpected combinations, like the veal tartare with smoked herring, mustard ice cream and buckwheat crisp, which was exactly the kind of dish that makes you pause after the first bite. There is something generous and unfussy about the place, but also a real sense of imagination, from the starters to the desserts.

Nuances

Best for? A creative dinner where every course is a discovery
What vibe ? Curious, playful, experience-driven

Nuances is one of the most experience-led restaurants in Nice, built around a blind tasting menu that changes every two weeks and gives the chef full carte blanche. Set on Rue Cassini, close to the Port, it is less about choosing what you want than letting yourself be surprised, course after course, by colourful, seasonal plates made with ultra-fresh ingredients. The restaurant describes itself as a contemporary, relaxed and responsible gastronomic table, and that balance is what makes it interesting: it feels ambitious, but not intimidating. Come here when you want dinner to become a game of trust, curiosity and surprise.

Les Agitateurs

Best for? A Michelin-starred dinner with real personality
What vibe ? Precise, restless, beautifully Southern

Les Agitateurs is the most serious table in this selection, but thankfully not the most solemn. Hidden near the Port, this one-Michelin-starred restaurant by Samuel Victori and Juliette Busetto brings a real sense of movement to fine dining in Nice, with a cuisine that draws from the South, the garrigue and the Mediterranean. What makes the experience stand out is its creative, locavore approach, built around local suppliers, precise technique, layered textures and beautifully controlled seasoning. It is fine dining with personality, rooted in its surroundings but never limited by them, and easily one of the most memorable restaurants in Nice.

Marinette

Best for? A proper brunch moment in Vieux Nice
What vibe ? Fresh, indulgent, photogenic

Marinette is where breakfast in Vieux Nice becomes more than just the first meal of the day. Set on a quiet old-town street, it has that polished café energy where pancakes, homemade cakes, tartines, bowls and coffee feel designed for people who actually enjoy the ritual of sitting down before the city gets too busy. There is something bright and generous about the place, not quite a bakery, not quite a restaurant, but a proper daytime address with its own little world. It is especially good for the kind of brunch that does not need to be extravagant to feel satisfying: a pretty plate, something sweet on the side, good coffee, and the pleasure of starting the day in Vieux Nice with a little more intention.

Wine & Riviera Moments

Rouge

Best for? Wine, small plates and easy nights near the Port
What vibe ? Social, polished, Riviera-cool

Rouge brings together everything you want from an evening near Port Lympia: good wine, refined small plates, friends around the table and a relaxed Riviera rhythm that can stretch from apéro to dinner. The wine list leans natural, biodynamic and carefully sourced, but the food is not an afterthought: the menu is built around real cooked dishes in small portions, made to share, with fresh seasonal products and a more polished touch than a simple wine bar. Between the terrace, the bottles, the plates arriving one by one and the easy buzz of the port, Rouge feels social, generous and quietly sophisticated.

La Treille Bar à Vin

Best for ? A spontaneous wine night in Vieux Nice
What vibe ? Convivial, unfiltered, deliciously loose

La Treille Bar à Vin feels like one of those Vieux Nice addresses made for evenings that start with “just one glass” and end up lasting much longer. This wine bar keeps things simple in the best way: good bottles, small Mediterranean plates like pissaladière, pan con tomate, vitello tonnato, octopus salad, and that easy atmosphere where the table matters as much as what is on it. It has more of a cave à manger spirit and a vintage bistro feel than a formal restaurant. Less polished than Rouge, more old-town and spontaneous, La Treille is perfect for a relaxed wine night in Vieux Nice.

Di Più

Best for? Italian comfort food by the Baie des Anges
What vibe ? Lively, generous, sun-kissed

Di Più plays the Riviera card generously: sea view, Italian comfort food, a lively room and plates that arrive without any sense of restraint. Set on Quai des États-Unis, facing the Baie des Anges, it is the place for pizzas, seafood dishes and especially huge portions of pasta, the kind you order when you are genuinely hungry and want something abundant without sacrificing quality. The mood is bright, busy and contemporary, with a terrace that makes the whole experience feel very Nice, very Riviera: Mediterranean, slightly glamorous, and made for an easy dinner by the water.
